Atletico Madrid arrived at Incheon International Airport on Thursday (27 April) at 8pm to receive a warm welcome from many Korean fans, as they will face Team K-League in the first leg of the Coupang Play Series at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.

In April, Coupang Play announced Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, and Paris Saint-Germain as the invited teams for the Coupang Play Series, which attracted great expectations from domestic football fans.

At the Incheon International Airport, Atletico Madrid’s head coach Diego Simeone and other world-class players such as Antoine Griezmann, Alvaro Morata, Cesar Aspilicueta, Jan Oblak, Memphis Depay, and others familiar to Korean football fans appeared at the arrival hall, amplifying the anticipation and excitement for the 2023 Coupang Play Series.

At the time of the announcement, Atlético Madrid said, “This summer, Atlético Madrid will be visiting Korea for the first time. We are honoured to be a part of the Coupang Play Series and believe it is a great opportunity for us to prepare for the new season.”

Atletico Madrid will meet the Korean media and fans for the first time at an official press conference and open training session on the afternoon of the 26th, followed by a series of matches against Team K League on the 27th and Manchester City on the 30th to give fans a taste of Atletico Madrid football.

Atletico Madrid, who will be greeting Korean fans for the first time since its founding in 1903, is a powerhouse in La Liga, having won 11 La Liga titles, 10 Copa del Rey titles and three UEFA Europa League titles.

Argentine coach Diego Simeone is credited with ushering in the club’s glory days, winning multiple trophies since taking over in 2011 with a tactic based on steady defence and high activity. Atletico Madrid will take on Team K-League players voted for by domestic football fans on Thursday, 27 November.
