Goseong FC defeated Busan I-Park Football Academy 5-0 to top the group and advance to the main tournament.
Busan Haeundae FC U15, Gyeongnam Treasure Island Namhae Sports Club U15, Jeonnam Suncheon FC U15, and Seoul Dunchon Middle School advanced directly to the quarter-finals of the 60th Cheongnyonggi National Middle School Football Tournament.
All 12 teams that qualified for the main tournament were decided after the third round of the group stage of the Cheongryonggi tournament, which was held at Sports Park 3-4 and Hwaehwa Sports Park in Goseong-gun, Gyeongnam on the 9th.
Haeundae FC, Suncheon FC, Treasure Island Namhae, Dunchon Jung, Gyeongnam Goseong FC U15 and Busan FC SAHA U15 topped their respective groups. Busan Gangseo FC U15, Gyeongnam Masan Jungang FC U15, Seoul Gaewonjung, Gyeongnam Changnyeong FC U15, Jeonbuk Wanju FC U15 and Seoul Gwanghui FC U15 finished second in their respective groups.
Haeundae FC, Suncheon FC, Treasure Island Namhae and Dunchonjung were drawn from the top six teams in the group to progress directly to the quarter-finals. Defending champions FC SAHA and Goseong FC will face the second-placed teams in their respective groups in the round of 12.
In Group 1, Haeundae Daegu FC and Masan Jungang FC drew 1-1 in their final group match. Masan Jungang FC took the lead in the 21st minute through Lee Young-min, but Baek Chae-hyun equalised for Haeundae FC 10 minutes into the second half. The two teams, who qualified early for the main tournament with two consecutive wins in the group stage, were unable to find a winner in the final match and ended up with equal points. The two teams, who had the same goal difference, finished first and second in the group with multiple goals. Haeundae FC topped Group 1 with nine goals, while Masan Jungang FC finished second with eight goals. Busanjin SC U15 defeated Cantera FC U15 2-1 in their match to claim a share of the spoils.
Group 2 also saw the first and second place teams tied on points. In the final group game, Gangseo FC, who had won two consecutive games, lost 0-1 to Suncheon FC, leaving both teams with six points (two wins and one loss). Following the winner-take-all rule between the two teams, Suncheon FC finished first in the group and Gangseo FC finished second. Ulsan Hyojeongjoong U15 finished the tournament with one win after two losses, beating Seoul Bae Jaejoong 2-1.
In Group 3, Bomulseom Namhae, who qualified early with two consecutive wins, drew 1-1 with Busan Deokcheon SC U15. With two wins, one draw and seven points, Boseom Namhae comfortably secured first place in the group. Gyeongsangnam-do Yeoncho FC U15, who won 2-1, finished second in the group with four points (one win, one draw and one loss). Deokcheon SC failed to qualify with a 3-3 draw (3 points).
Group 4’s Dunchonjoong, who also secured early qualification with two consecutive wins, suffered a blow against Gyeongnam Jinju FC U15. After conceding a goal to Jinju FC’s Jung Woo-jin in the 22nd minute of the first half, Dunchonjung levelled the score at 1-1 with a goal from Kim Moo-jin in the 14th minute of the second half, but conceded the final goal to Yoon Sun-ho in the 30th minute to lose 1-2. However, with six points (two wins and one loss) already secured, it was not difficult for them to top the group. Changnyeong FC drew 1-1 with Daegu Chargeunjung to finish with one win, one draw and one loss (four points). They had the same number of points as Jinju FC, but finished second in the group due to the winner-take-all rule. Changnyeong FC defeated Jinju FC 2-0 in their second group game.
In Group 5, Goseong FC thrashed Busan I-Park Football Academy U15 5-0, led by a multi-goal performance from Baek Su-yang. Wanju FC thrashed underdog Daegu FC Cannon U15 11-0. Wanju FC’s Lee Yong-hyun set off a ‘goal firecracker’, scoring a whopping eight goals on his own. Goseong FC and Wanju FC are tied with two wins, one draw and seven points, but Goseong FC (+17 goals) has the edge in goal difference to top the group. Wanju FC (+15 goals) finished second and will play in the round of 12.
Defending champions FC SAHA topped the group with 6 points (2 wins) after defeating Gwanghwijung 2-0. Baek Joo-ho scored back-to-back goals in the 20th and 26th minutes to secure the win. Kwang Hee-joong finished second in the group with a 1-1 record (3 points).
The 12 teams that qualified for the round of 16 were drawn for the main tournament on the morning of the 10th at the Goseong-gun National Sports Centre. Four of the top teams in each group will go straight to the quarter-finals, while the two top teams and six second-placed teams will battle it out for a spot in the last eight. As a result of the draw, Goseong FC – Changnyeong FC, Wanju FC – Gangseo FC, FC SAHA – Masan Jungang FC, and Kwang Heejoong – Gaewonjoong will face each other on the 11th at Goseong-gun Sports Park 3-4.
