According to Japanese media outlet Full Count, NPB Enterprises announced today the players who will participate in the training camp for the “Samurai Japan” social team, the Japanese national baseball team that will compete at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

A total of 39 players will participate in the training camp. There are 14 pitchers, including Tazawa (ENEOS) and Katsutoshi Sadake (Toyota Motor Corporation). There are five catchers, 11 infielders, and nine outfielders.

Tazawa joined the Boston Red Sox in Major League Baseball in 2009 and was a member of their 2013 World Series championship team. He played in Boston through 2016 before signing a two-year, $12 million deal with Miami ahead of the 2017 season.

He played his final season with Miami and the Los Angeles Angels in 2018. In his nine seasons in the major leagues, he has a 21-26 record with four saves and a 4.12 ERA in 388 games.

He then played in the minor leagues in 2019 and spent a season with the Weichuan Dragons of the Taiwan Professional Baseball League in 2021. In 58 games, he went 4-4 with a 3.56 ERA.

He continued to play in the Mexican League in 2022, and this year he is playing for the ENEOS team in Japan’s Social Baseball. Even in his late 30s, he hasn’t given up his passion for the game, playing in Taiwan and Mexico.

Meanwhile, the training camp for Japan’s Asian Games squad will be held at JR East Baseball’s Kashiwa Stadium from April 24 to 26. Shao Ishii will be the head coach.
